Robert Parker (Apr 1996)
The 1994 may turn out to be too tannic, as it is excruciatingly hard and astringent. There is plenty of density in the dark purple color, and the wine offers up pure, ripe blackcurrant aromas intermingled with scents of new oak. It is a medium-bodied, well-made wine, but the tannin level is frightening. Those with the patience and optimism necessary to wait this wine out for a decade will be in a better position to report on it.
This estate has been producing concentrated, powerful wines that look impressive, although their blockbuster tannin level raises questions about how much will melt away before the fruit cracks up. Both the 1994 and 1995 wines possess more positive components than negative.
All of the wines in this segment were tasted between March 19 and March 28 in Bordeaux. Most of the important wines from both the 1994 and 1995 vintages were tasted three (3) separate times during my ten-day stay in Bordeaux.
